I've written for Slate, ESPN and Outside, among other publications.
I've covered the Euro Cup in Poland, professional boxing in the Deep South and balloon races along the Mississippi River.
I have degrees in writing and geography, and as a graduate student I studied political violence in Medellín,
Colombia, with the American Geographical Society. I grew up in Claremont, California, but I've lived in Colombia, Spain,
Wisconsin and Mississippi. Today I live with my wife Irene in Heidelberg, Germany.
